My skill set encompasses 40 years in AC/DC power technology with experience in engineering, manufacturing, and management as a visionary and “change agent”. My current employer, Beckett Energy, is involved in the design and manufacture of scalable energy storage systems for the edge of the grid.
I believe that the technological advances of “global advanced energy” will make it necessary for the ESA to provide an innovative leadership role in the development of energy storage and power conversion technology in the world.
The “disruptiveness” of the technology will require board members to help develop new paradigms and direction to address energy storage and power conversion technology at all levels from the large grid, to the edge of the grid, to residential homes. As an example, when Edison “invented” electricity that electricity was direct current. Direct current wasn’t feasible due to transmission losses over long distances. If distributed energy storage is available in the residential neighborhoods at the edge of the grid, direct current will be available “at the curb”. The LED lighting we currently use, newer televisions, computers, variable speed motors in our appliances are powered by DC that has to be converted from AC. Just think of the efficiency improvements if they could operate directly from DC.
